THIS IS HUGE: The Supreme Court Just Rejected Trump’s Missouri Congressional Map for the Third Time, and Voters Are the Ones Who Won
Give credit where it’s due.
The Supreme Court just turned away an attempt to use Donald Trump’s Republican-friendly congressional map in Missouri, halting a federal appeals court ruling that would have revived it for the November elections.
That’s the third time the justices have said no.
And this decision matters more than most.
Republicans wanted to redraw the map to help them win an extra seat in the midterms. The plan was pushed by Trump and Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe, and it would have gutted the Kansas City district held by Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver.
The AP estimates about 59% of potential voters in that district would have been new to it.
But Missouri citizens didn’t accept it.
They organized. They gathered petition signatures. They demanded a statewide vote before
the map could be used.
The Missouri Supreme Court ruled their petition valid.
And now the U.S. Supreme Court has let that ruling stand.
Think about what that means.
Missouri voters will cast their ballots in November under the same districts used in 2024 and 2022. Not a map drawn to hand one party an advantage.
It also ends the chaos that left more than a million Missouri voters, nearly 1 in 4 statewide, with different candidates on their ballots depending on which court order was in effect. Absentee voting is already underway.
Whatever you think of the rest of this Court’s decisions, this one gets the job done. The rule of law held. The petition process held. And the voters got the last word.
Thank you to the justices for protecting the voters of Missouri.
